CHART OF NUCLIDES

A "Chart of the nuclides" plots the number of protons (z) against the number of neutrons (n). Stable isotopes fall within a wider band of unstable nuclei. This narrow band is sometimes called, "The valley of β-stability". In general, elements with even numbers of protons are more abundant, and have more isotopes than elements with odd numbers of protons. And, among the isotopes of a given element, those with even numbers of neutrons are more abundant than those with odd numbers of neutrons.
